Snowfall just after Christmas meant that snow conditions were
really good. Lifts weren't too crowded as well so all in all
we had a great time on the piste!

Stayed in Les Terrasses d'Eos which was very comfortable and
convenient.

First visit to Flaine and picked the Centaure Apartments for
our family ski trip. Accommodation was cleverly designed and
the swimming pool turned out to be a nice bonus. Weather was
great and the kids had a lot of fun in the ski school.

Went to flaine when snow was scarce last year. Were surprised
at how hard they had worked to keep piste open and in good
condition. We got a good deal, was first time since kids were
young - about 16 years, and we really enjoyed it. Stayed at
Totem hotel. We found staff very friendly, food was good and
free wine and soft drinks at meals was a bonus. Right on pistes
so getting back for lunch was easy. Ok rooms were quite basic
but were clean. We are going back this January, got another
good deal. Also seemed a very good hotel for families with
young children.

With my wife being a teacher we had to go in half term and I was
worried it would be mad busy but there are so many lifts it was
fine. I am of intermediate standard and the slopes were
perfectly challenging with lots of variety.

The only downside is it is tough for beginners with only really
one short green run. The whole place is very expensive but this
is to be expected. I will definitely be going again!

My husband and son are in Flaine right now and having a
fantastic time - I'm regretting not having gone with them.
We've been for the last 7 years - on the last day last year I
did a stupid thing, and snapped a cruciate but too busy working
last year to do my physio justice and so felt uncomfortable
going this year.

The skiing is wonderful (including the ski tutors at the
international school), the locals we have met there really
lovely and as for the architecture - do people really not
appreciate the genius of Marcel Breuer and the vision of
Boissonas? Who needs twee chalets, and if you do try La Cascade
or Bissac or L'Eloge!

However I do think it's a secret best kept, don't want just
anyone in the resort!

I went to Flaine as a beginner with my family who went last year
, they had promised me an amazing hotel and resort but when I
got there the Totem hotel was absolutely disgusting, the rooms
had/ smelt like/ looked damp the bar was heavily overpriced and
the food had no variety and wasn't to suit all tastes (since
when did bacon come with the vegetarian dish).

The skiing however was fantastic the ski school was brilliant
(the ones in the red jackets maybe ESF) were fantastic, also the
resort itself is magnificently maintained will go again but in
another hotel.

Great resort for skiing. Good runs, although lower slopes get
very churned up later in the day. Excellent variety of pistes to
suit all levels. However mountain restaurants expensive.
Otherwise resort very disappointing. Aesthetically unattractive,
limited or no activities for non skiers, limited variety of
restaurants for those self catering and also over priced. There
are much better resorts in France!

We have just come back from a fab skiing holiday in France.
Stayed at the new Montsoleil Apartments and would highly
recommend it. Took our 7 and 8 years olds for the first time
skiing and they took to it really well. Great apartments with
outdoor heated pool and indoor Jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms.

The only drawback was no bar or games room for kids and no shop.
But the local Spar did deliveries free and there was a free ski
bus up and down the resort. Would certainly go back again - 7
days was not long enough!! Great snow conditions snowed 3 days
solid and had a good 18 inches worth of snow. Bring on 2010 !!

Really liked the resort. We had our first family skiing holiday
together with a 4 year old and a 5 year old. After a rather
fraught first day getting sorted out, we settled in well and
have booked again hoping that things go smoother now we know our
way around.

At the time the 4 year old was not keen on the 3 hour ski
lessons, dropping her off at ski school was upsetting. Also, as
my lesson was at the same time as the children's, my husband had
to struggle on his own to get them to the meeting place down a
tricky slope. Would be better to have the kids ski school
meeting place closer and more accessible. My only quibble.

I have been going to Flaine for almost 20 years. Usually spending
1 week's holiday in Flaine and another week in a different resort
worldwide. I usually go away in a fairly large group up to 35 and
I always try to book everything locally myself as it saves a
fortune. I have skied in Sweden, Bulgaria, Austria, Lake Tahoa in
The USA, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and even Andorra but I keep
coming back to Flaine. More reliable quality snow conditions, no
queues, brilliantly maintained and marked pistes, fast and
comfortable lift systems, nearly all accommodation is ski to
door, and not to many Brits (it's a resort the French use a lot).

Whilst I'm in other resorts I always find myself comparing them
with Flaine and thinking why didn't I go to Flaine? Especially
this year when we spent a fabulous week in January in Flaine and
a week in February in Borovets in Bulgaria, what a mistake, never
going there again.

All the bars and restaurants in Flaine are friendly and good
value, beer the same price as Bulgaria. Accommodation is basic
but perfectly adequate. Everything is close to hand and you never
feel that you are being ripped off, rare in these days.

Great ski area for beginners and intermediates. Really good lifts
and the snow was excellent while we were there. Some of the
slopes had some flat or even up hill bits that you had to push
yourself, beware snowboarders! All in all I would recommend the
area we had a great time and some very nice runs and hard to
explore the whole area in one week.

What a great resort! Fab snow and great weather. Took our
youngest children twins 7, for the first time and they really
enjoyed it. There were five of us all together, all at different
levels and there was plenty for everyone. Our eldest tried
snowboarding and loved that too. The ESF teachers were all
fantastic kept the class levels right and you weren't afraid to
swap and change, their English was brill too. Can't wait to go
back.

We went with Crystal who weren't that good and the hotel was
very basic for the price but the food was a plenty and lots of
hot water. We were too tired at night to do anything but sleep.
Loved it but don't tell everyone don't want it to be too
popular!!!

Really enjoyed the Grand Massif. We stayed in Morillon and
although it was quite quiet we had a fantastic time. The
conditions were excellent! Some unspoilt traditional bars on the
mountains which we 7 blokes made considerable use of. The fact
that the queues were short meant a lot. I would certainly
recommend the ski area to anyone who wants to stay away from
busy soul less areas.

After our usual Crystal holiday to Italy was stopped in its
tracks by outrageous price hikes courtesy the 2006 winter
Olympics, Amanda and I voted with our feet and decided to spend
the money for 2006 on a Neilsons trip to Flaine...

I have been skiing in the area since 1997 after getting fed up
with the high prices and overcrowding of the more popular (Brit)
resorts. January is the best month to ski with very few people
around and no queues. One piece of advise to Brits wanting to ski
in the area is to contact resort letting agents directly which
in most cases saves you a lot of money and keeping the money in
the area.

This was our second visit to Flaine and in our opinion it's
definitely an underrated resort. It might not have the charm of a
traditional Alpine Village but it's functional and the skiing is
great. Both Flaine Forum and Flaine Foret are quiet in the
evening but after a hard days skiing that wasn't a problem.
